Supreme Court Asks J&K SG if 4G Can Be Restored in Some Areas
Supreme Court hears the contempt plea against J&K administration over the suspension of 4G internet services. The next hearing is on August 11th.
The supreme court on Friday asked the Solicitor General (SG) Tushar Mehta appearing on behalf of Jammu Kashmir government, whether it was possible to restore 4G internet services in some areas.
The SG, however, sought an adjournment as a new LG had been appointed yesterday in Jammu Kashmir and the ensuing developments need to be ascertained.
A contempt plea was filed by the Foundation for Media Professionals against J&K administration over the non-constitution of a special committee to review the ban on 4G internet services.
Senior Advocate Huzefa Ahmadi, appearing on behalf of the Petitioner submitted, “SG appears for UT of J&K, and AG for the Centre. On the last date of hearing, SG had said that he does not even want to file a Reply. AG said that he does not want to file a Reply. Now today, the submission for replying has come from the Union.”
Justice Ramana noted this and stated, “I understand you have waited for a while; wait for another two days.” Justice Reddy informed the Counsels that the question here was solely about contempt, but Justice Ramana asked SG not to strictly go by contempt and should come up with an answer about whether 4G internet services can be resumed in some areas
