 Meet Abida Haroon: A national cultural theatre artist from Srinagar



She says it needs patience, hardwork to become a theatre artist


Srinagar, Jul 04: A young woman from Srinagar is bringing laurels to whole J&K as she has been leaping the ladder of success with each passing day and is presently a national cultural artist.


Aabida Haroon, a resident of Batamaloo, besides being a national cultural artist is a theatre artist and performing artist on DD Kashir and All India Radio Srinagar.


Aabida, while talking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said that it were the co-curricular activities in school that lured her to become an artist as she used to take part in all cultural activities and programs organised in her schools and other schools too.


Aabida who has completed her masters in Journalism and Mass communication is now pursuing masters in folklore and cultural studies.


She has performed as a lead in plays like Shakespeare, Chronicle of Kashmir, Tengul, Nyay and many more besides being artist in drama section of All India Radio Srinagar and DD Kashir, where she has worked in serials like Choti, Dard Ka Koi Nam Nahi and many more.


She said that it took her around ten years of consistency and hardwork to become a national artist and she has received dozens of awards and appreciations at mega stages.


In the last 10 years, Aabida has performed at state and national level platforms where her work has been appreciated by one and all.


“While performing in Tableau, after 25 years J&K stood runner up,” she said, adding that they have been organising programs under the banner of Sheen cultural society and have been organizing programmes at state and national levels for all budding artists.


Aabida said that it was her dream to start her society and she started Sheen Cultural Society to provide platform to other budding artists.


She added that government must support all cultural theatre artists in J&K so that they can further hone their skills and excel in the field.


“My family has been very supportive and my priority is my family and if you want to go ahead you have to go through ups and downs,” she said.


She further said that all those who are interested in this field must participate in events and start performing for learning and without hardwork nothing can be achieved—(KNO)
