 J&K Govt surrenders over Rs 72 Cr of civil works in School Edu deptt to GoI



Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir government has surrendered over 72 Crore rupees of civil works in the School Education department to the Government of India (GoI)—raising a question on the functioning of the department.

The figures reveal that Rs 72.6 Crore were surrendered by the authorities of Jammu and Kashmir to Human Resource Development (HRD).

Official figures available with KNO reveals that the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir has surrendered civil works amounting to a total of Rs 7260.59 lakh including Rs 532.57 lakh for elementary and Rs 6728.02 lakh for secondary level.

In order to strengthen existing elementary schools, the documents reveal that an outlay of Rs. 3133.80 lakh was estimated for various infrastructure interventions for elementary level.

Similarly, to strengthen existing schools at secondary level, “An outlay of Rs. 549.99 lakh was estimated for various infrastructure interventions for secondary level,” it reads.

Likewise, to strengthen existing schools at secondary and higher secondary level, “An outlay of Rs 745.80 lakh was estimated for secondary and higher secondary level.”

The GoI said that this would enable to maintain the enrolment and retention at Primary and elementary level and is covered under PGI Indicators.

The Ministry of Human Resource Development said, “Different reports should be uploaded in the portal from various levels that is principal, headmaster, CRC coordinator and District level officials, will be checked to validate the progress”.
