Shahid Afridi tests positive for coronavirus

Pakistan cricketer Shahid Afridi, who has been active in relief work during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic in the country, has tested positive for COVID-19.

Afridi tweeted about him contracting the virus on Saturday.

“I’ve been feeling unwell since Thursday; my body had been aching badly. I’ve been tested and unfortunately I’m covid positive. Need prayers for a speedy recovery, InshaAllah.”

He joins the list of scores of well-known personalities in the world to be infected with the virus.

He is also the second Pakistan cricketer to test positive for COVID-19. Recently, former Pakistan opener Taufeeq Umar had also tested positive. He has recovered from the disease.

Afridi has helped thousands of poor with ration and other essential supplies over the past couple of months. His works had even received the backing of Indian cricketers Yuvraj Singh and Harbhajan Singh, though the relations later turned sour.

The veteran cricketer had recently hailed Pakistan Cricket Board’s move to appoint Younis Khan as the team’s batting coach for the England tour. With Younis in the coaching team, the PCB has an all-cricket coaching staff.

Globally, over seven million have been infected with COVID-19 of which Pakistan has witnessed over 1.32 lakh cases and nearly 2600 deaths so far.
